Along with Vanessa, his wife, and their three incredible kids, Pastor Michael Rice is delighted to be a part of the Orchard Bible Fellowship family. Pastor Mike comes to the Orchard after 11 years serving as a lead pastor and church planter in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Mike trusted Christ as a child growing up near Philadelphia, PA, and while initially trained as a Materials Engineer at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, he felt the call to pastoral ministry early in his engineering career. Upon graduation from college, he found himself serving in youth ministry, college ministry, and worship ministry, all of which God used to expand Mike’s head and heart and confirm his call into the pastorate. After 5 years as an engineer, Michael was able to close that chapter and pursue his master of Divinity at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL.
Mike’s ministry passion is to help people see God bigger. A passion which grows out of his life’s purpose, which is to maximize delight. Therefore, he strives not only to help people know and follow Jesus, but to enjoy Jesus.
Additionally, Mike’s heart for our church family is that through careful study and intentional application of God’s word, prayerful dependence on the Holy Spirit, passionate worship, and intimate joyous community with one another, we should become more perfect conduits of Christ’s character both as a church family and as individuals. And in this way, that we might see a desire for Christ ignited in the hearts of our friends and neighbors as they see Him in us.
Pastor Mike has also had the privilege of serving the Evangelical Free Church of America on both district and national ministry teams in theology and credentialing, and church planting.
When he’s not in the office, Pastor Mike enjoys laughing (ok, he enjoys that in the office too), music, theater, pizza-movie night with the family, going out with Vanessa, hanging out with friends, playing golf, and Chick-fil-a :-).
